FEBRUARY 20-21 , 2020

MGIMO UNIVERSITY ODINTSOVO

Conference Background

The II Academic and Practical Linguistics Forum at MGIMO

The first “Language. Culture. Translation.” conference was held at the Odintsovo campus of MGIMO University in 2019. It brought together dozens of renowned professionals from various academic fields, including researchers, professors, translators and students of linguistic faculties. Through this conference, MGIMO - Odintsovo became a new Russian hotspot of academic discussion, covering such subject matter as language policy, intercultural communication, and the linguistic aspects of processing digital information, as well as other topics surrounding contemporary linguistics. In organizing the upcoming 2020 Conference, the Faculty of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication at MGIMO took into account the traditions of language training at our University, as well as all the modern trends of fundamental and applied linguistics.

Goals for a New Decade

Linguistic Studies in 2020 and Beyond

In the context of the ever-accelerating processes of globalization, various concepts like the preservation of cultural and national identity inadvertantly cause language related issues to come into play.  The internationalization of higher education and its transition to English as an “intermediary language” (and the language of global communication), especially in Academic fields, has created a need for global discourse. These needs are further intensified by technological development, both in regards to the Internet and the personal communication devices which have made information resources and social networks so accessible around the world. The International Linguistics conference at MGIMO will become a forum where professionals with various backgrounds join together for the discussion and development of practical recommendations regarding the contemporary issues of linguistics and intercultural communication.
